Difference Between Stage and Depth


You don’t need to get confused between stage and depth of a stream or river. In this post we will clear you with the help of a diagram and definitions.

Stage

The stage is the height of the water surface above some datum point, which is usually taken as the deepest point in the stream channel.

Depth

It is the vertical distance from the water surface level to the bed of that river or stream

In the above image, “H” is the Stage as it is measured from datum and “d” is the Depth as it is measured from the bed.
